For more than 40 years, The Little Dooey has been bringing people together in Starkville. Founders Barry and Margaret Ann Wood built the restaurant around good food, family, and hospitality, but the story of “a little dooey” began even earlier. The saying came from Margaret Ann’s mother and meant something made just for you, with love. For Barry and Margaret Ann, it became a way of gathering friends and family around good food and good company. That spirit grew into a Starkville tradition and remains at the heart of The Little Dooey today.

AN OLD STARKVILLE HOME, MADE NEW.

Built by the Pate family in the early 1900s, the house at 508 University Drive is one of Starkville’s oldest two-story homes and has been part of the community for generations. Over the years, it has been many things to many people, from Mississippi State students to Starkville families and friends, and plenty of people still have stories and memories tied to this place.

Now, the house begins a new chapter as the Dooey House. It has been completely refurbished from top to bottom, with the original floors carefully sanded and restored, fresh paint throughout, new appliances, new décor, and all-new furnishings.

The history is still here. Everything else has been made ready for the people who will fill the house with new memories of their own.
